PC Games: F. Godmom
1A clever and distinctive puzzle platformer from a more obscure developer, Soggybread Software. According to the perhaps overly-verbose story text, you play as an elite fairy godmother on a mission to rescue fifty others who are captured in an insidious dimensional trap. That you can somehow unravel by collecting pennies. Don't question it.
Avoid crabs as you gather seven pennies in each stage to reveal a door, then reach the door with the key to clear the stage. A bonus coin worth an extra life also appears after collecting the pennies for an extra bit of risk/reward, and you also get an extra life for each stage you clear.
The main gimmick is her magic wand, imbued with what's essentially a copy/paste spell: scan something to copy it, then zap something else to temporarily turn it into one of those. In a nod to folklore, the wand cannot interact with iron objects, the traditional weakness of the fae. And if something untransforms when overlapping something its original form can't coexist with... well, let's just say telefragging is older than Doom.
No music, but I find the sound effects memorable and rather charming, and the EGA graphics are used effectively enough that it almost looks like more than 16 colors.
Come to think of it, does it count as a platformer if you can't jump? I'll leave that one to the philosophers. It's still a puzzle game either way.
