Been wanting to do this one for a long time. While I was very familiar with the Sega Genesis version of this game, Batman: Revenge Of The Joker, the NES I had not yet tried out. Doesn't help that the game was not based upon a movie or cartoon and is sandwiched in between two Batman games on the NES that were based upon movies. When compared to the much more famous Batman game that preceded it, I do find it to be not quite as strong a game. But that does not mean by any means that it is poor quality game not worthy of playing/trying. Whereas the first Batman game borrowed elements from games like Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania, this game I found borrowed elements from a game like Mega Man for example with the gauntlet blaster that Batman uses as his primary attack and having multiple pick-ups for the blaster that change what type of projectile it fires. And discovering what ammo pick-up works best for a boss or your play style is what really affects how tough this game is going to be for you. While not anywhere near as tough or unforgiving as the previous game, this one is also no slouch and far from a walk in the park. The frustrating knockback effect is still very, very much present in this game and I found to be the leading cause of death for me while playing the game. And I found that the hit detection was not as tight in this game when compared to the previous game and to some degree the following game as well. While those little issues are noticeable, the game certainly has more to offer that make it worthwhile. With the addition of a password system and unlimited continues carrying over from the previous game as well really do help tip the balance of difficulty in the players favor. The game will only end when your too tired to carry on, and you get a small and easy password provided when you want to try again and continue on. Great music, cool bosses and stunningly beautiful graphics for an NES game (honestly I have seen SNES games that don't look nearly as nice as this one) really make it one of the best looking and presented NES games that I can think of. And any time you have the Joker as the primary antagonist to battle, well I am all game for that. Certainly not as instantly difficult as the previous game, the battle with the Joker at the end is certainly tough and will give you a very good run until you figure out a good strategy. Overall, its worth trying out and picking up for sure...providing you can actually find it. While Batman is very common and Batman Returns is rather uncommon yet still affordable more or less, this game is now pretty rare and very pricey usually coming in at the 80-100 range for a loose cart, never mind a CIB one. If you can find and afford one, get it because its a great platformer worthy of any NES collection. But good luck finding one at the end of the day. With Batman and now Batman:Return Of The Joker, the NES Batman series was on a roll for great licensed games and with Batman Returns coming next, could it possibly be that we would have a trilogy of good and actually fun super hero games that were not TMNT games? Well....we'll get to that next month. Thanks for watching!

Hope You Enjoy!
