This one was a very longtime coming. While I am very familiar with the movie Dick Tracy (Disney's attempt to cash-in on the big Batman craze of the time that preceded and followed the 1989 mega-blockbuster Tim Burton's Batman along with all the merchandise and media blitz that surrounded and was spawned by that movie as well), along with the assortment of action figures/merchandise that the movie spawned. I am also very familiar with the rather well-known and infamous NES game Dick Tracy (I'll do that one for the channel here one day in the future I'm sure). Having had that game for many years (and quite enjoying it too regardless of its reputation and low standing among licensed games of the era) and later discovered that there was indeed another Dick Tracy game on Sega Genesis (but no SNES version/port for whatever reason) so my interest was piqued to say the least. After seeing it for the first time in the AVGN Dick Tracy episode all those years ago (fantastic episode too!) and checking out some videos/reviews of it (thanks Cornshaq, amazing play-it-through video) pretty much decided that the game looked like a total gem therefore I must own it and beat it. How right I was in every single way. While the game is rather generic and pretty standard in most ways (platforming, jumping/shooting etc) for the time in which it was released, a big difference between it and the more well-known NES game was the game play mechanic of being able to battle the oncoming assortment of thugs and goons in front and behind you (standard stuff) but also in the background at the same with your Tommy-gun. Which can really make for some fast and hair-raising gun battles in areas throughout the game....especially near the end where it is downright RELENTLESS. You also have your driving levels where you're having to out-shoot and dodge bullets from oncoming cars loaded with more of Big Boy's goons who are a very good shot and you really have to be quick and on your toes to get through a couple of these alive, like you CANNOT MISS ONCE really in a couple spots...quite stressful in spots honestly. Plot-wise the game follows the movie pretty loosely but overall well enough and it features most of the major locations from the movie as well (Lips/Big Boy Caprice's nightclub The Club Ritz, the gear-house from the final confrontation etc.) along with a good selection of villainous characters to serve as boss battles (Lips Manlis, Itchy, Prune Face, Flattop etc) at the end of the 6 levels you have to go through to finally bring Big Boy down. The battle with Flattop particularly stands out as a very tough battle, maybe more so then the battle with Big Boy at the end. My overall impression of the game after it was all over was that it is indeed a vastly underrated gem, with tight and responsive controls, decent music, good and varied game-play, challenging boss battles, and the perfect game length for a game of this difficulty...because it does get very tough and challenging and it really keeps you on your toes. The last couple of levels are very relentless and unforgiving so hopefully you can rack up as many extra lives and continues as possible from the bonus target practice levels. You are going to need them no question. So is it worth getting? Absolutely! A great one to have in your Sega Genesis library. Problem is that it is starting to get more and more uncommon and pricey as time goes on, especially CIB or boxed copies. Not easy to find at all. But if you happen to run across a loose copy for the right price then by all means get it. Its great one and it was a real pleasure to play this one, even though my thumbs really hurt by the end of it lol! Thanks for watching!!!

Hope You Enjoy!!!
