Released 9/9/1985, Battle City for Famicom is a sequel to Namco's 1980 arcade classic Tank Battalion. This is an excellent tank combat game that never made it to the NES or the West despite getting releases in Japan on the VS Arcade system and Game Boy. It's even playable in the Japanese version of Star Fox Assault! Much like Devil World, Nintendo wanted to keep this one a secret from Western audiences. But why?

It's actually very simple: you appear to be defending a base with a symbol that could easily be construed as the Nazi War Eagle. What's more, this is a game of tank warfare, something the Nazis were known for and excelled at in their Blitzkrieg attacks during WWII. The name of the game even sounds like a literal translation of a German word: Kampfstadt. The term "battle city" is not a phrase in English. This may be the first video game where you play as a Nazi. WTF?!

I am considering a playthrough to be beating the Hi-Score. I played on an original NES with a Game Genie adapter (see Shorts) to allow for playing a Famicom cartridge. I am using a NES Advantage controller, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
