Released 8/6/1985, The Tower of Druaga is a port of Namco's arcade classic. You play as a knight named Gilgamesh who must save a princess named Ki trapped in a tower by an evil wizard (sound familiar?). You battle your way through mazes on each floor and must find a key to unlock the exit. Defeating certain enemies will reveal hidden chests granting new abilities.

Though somewhat of a flop in American arcades, The Tower of Druaga was quite popular in Japan. The influence this game had on The Legend of Zelda should not be underestimated, and fans of the series will see many familiar ideas. Personally, this game feels a tad repetitive and unforgiving to me, but I do enjoy the abilities you can unlock on your journey and the influence this game had on Zelda games.

I am considering a playthrough to be beating the Hi Score. I played on an original NES with a Game Genie adapter (see Shorts) to allow for playing a Famicom cartridge. I am using a NES Advantage controller, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
