Bout presents: Battle Clash (Intro)
Battle Clash (known in Japan as Space Bazooka) is a sci-fi light-gun on-rails shooter developed by Nintendo's R&D1 division (along with Intelligent Systems) and published by Nintendo for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in North America on October 1992, in Europe on March 18, 1993, and in Japan on June 21, 1993.
The time is the 21st century. In the wake of natural disasters and social unrest, human society has collapsed. The only amusement left for the inhabitants of this grim Earth of the future is the Battle Game. This contest of advanced arena combat pits giant, armored riot suits known as Standing Tanks (ST's) against each other in a fight to the finish. The winner gains power and prestige, while the lower faces humiliation, dishonor and low class citizenship. You are the gunner of the ST Falcon. You friend's father experience defeat in the Battle Game and now you must help him get revenge. Your Super NES Super Scope gives you complete control of all the Falcon's weapons systems.
Set in a dystopian future, players control the gunner of a type of mech known as the "Standing Tank" (or "ST") as they fight other STs in one-on-one combat. As the gunner for the ST Falcon (piloted by Mike Anderson), players must defeat the world's six Battle Chiefs before taking on their tyrannical ruler Anubis.
The game requires use of Nintendo's Super Scope peripheral, as players must aim and shoot laser blasts to intercept enemy attacks and damage the enemy STs' vulnerable spots. While rapid-fire shots are commonly used for both offense and defense, some enemy attacks and weak spots require the shot to be charged up into powerful Energy Bolts.
The game later received a sequel the following year, titled Metal Combat: Falcon's Revenge, and is the only game developed for the Super Scope to receive one.
In the game, the player is the gunner of the mecha ST Falcon and also Mike's partner, who fights against a group of other STs in one-on-one battles. To attack, the player must shoot using the Super Scope. It is possible to shoot rapid shots by holding down the fire button, as well as energy bolts (charged shots). Energy bolts can be shot when an energy bar fills up (this happens when the player does not fire). When the energy bar has filled up, the energy bolt can be fired, though it will consume the energy bar. It is also important to defend against enemy attacks by shooting their fire. Some attacks can only be deflected by firing energy bolts.
The player wins if the rival ST's energy is depleted first—the objective of the game is to defeat the rival ST to clear the stage. The damage inflicted on the enemy depends on the spot where the ST has been shot (all STs have some kind of weak point) and how powerful the shot is.
