262A playthrough of GT Interactive's 1998 action-adventure game for the Nintendo Game Boy, Beavis and Butt-head.
One cool thing about the Beavis and Butthead games was that no two were alike. No matter which version you sit down to play, each platform got its own unique spin on the series. This one sits pretty firmly in the middle of the pack - it's much better than the SNES and Game Gear versions, but it doesn't touch the Genesis and PC adventure games.
That being said, it feels almost like a diet version of the excellent Sega Genesis game. It focuses much more on exploration and (easy, minor) puzzles as you explore Highland's school, park, Burger World and other locales, and apart from the ill-advised inclusion of a platforming stage, B&B looks and controls will instantly remind you of The Legend of Zelda (or any other top-down adventure game that came later), and the theme song is surprisingly quite well fine! I wish that there were some voice samples, though! The sprites look pretty good - everyone is recognizable and well animated, and the cutscene images look great!
There's plenty of dialogue, and some of it is funny, even if much of it really doesn't sound like the actual show. The gameplay itself is not without its faults (it's easy, short, and can be a bit repetitive), but it is quite fun if you're in the mood for some juvenile antics on the go.
