Beetle PSX - CPU Overclocking - Smooth framerates in King's Field
See here an in-development build of Beetle PSX with CPU overclocking enabled!
The game King's Field was originally released for PlayStation1 in 1995. This game was made by the same creators who would later go on to make the critically acclaimed Soulsborne series, including such games as Demon's Souls, Dark Souls and Bloodborne.
Now, From Software is well known for making excellent games, but they are also well known for notorious framerate drops, and King's Field was no exception in that regard. It was a juddery, stuttery mess that might try settling for 30fps but very rarely could maintain it, occasionally dropping down to the mid to low 20s.
You can see in this video for yourself how much of an improvement CPU overclocking brings to this game.
NOTE: Beetle PSX previously had an option called 'CPU Overclocking' which was actually erroneously named. A more appropriate name for it would have been GTE Overclocking, or even GTE stall removal. The existing CPU Overclock option will be renamed as 'GTE Overclocking' in light of this.
DISCLAIMER: We are using Beetle PSX HW here with the OpenGL renderer at 2x resolution.
