Beetle PSX - CPU Overclocking - 60fps in Battle Arena Toshinden 1!
See here an in-development build of Beetle PSX with CPU overclocking enabled!
The game Battle Arena Toshinden was originally released for PlayStation1 in 1995. This game was launched alongside other pioneering 3D fighting games like Tekken and Virtua Fighter and actually managed to be really impressive on a technical level, aiming for a high-resolution mode (640x240) at 30 frames per second.
You can see in this video that by enabling CPU overclocking, we can get the game to run at a locked 60fps. Only caveat of this is that the game was obviously not designed to run at such a high framerate- for instance, you can see me not being able to run because the window to double-tap either left or right on the d-pad is too short at 60fps, so it literally does not let me run. All the other inputs work though.
NOTE: Beetle PSX previously had an option called 'CPU Overclocking' which was actually erroneously named. A more appropriate name for it would have been GTE Overclocking, or even GTE stall removal. The existing CPU Overclock option will be renamed as 'GTE Overclocking' in light of this.
DISCLAIMER: We are using Beetle PSX HW here with the OpenGL renderer at 2x resolution.
