Beholder Lore in Dungeons and Dragons!

Getting to paint weird stuff makes me happy. This month for @dragontrapperslodge5730 I picked out their Rose Beholder from their Nellie’s Brush of Infinite Wonder collection, which honestly would be great if you have some younger dungeon explorers in your home! Beholders have long since been a favourite classic Dungeons and Dragons monster for me, but I realised I didn't know much about their lore, so let's learn today! Basing scheme for this model:
AK Terrain Dark Earth texture paste
Ryza Rust (dry) brush
Screaming Skull (layer) dry brush
Add tufts as desired!
Here's how and why I prime the way I do!
Two different rattle/spray cans are used-one full solid coat of Chaos Black, and a lighter coat of Grey Seer sprayed from above to add light/dark areas. The lighter coating of grey seer adds a small amount of grit(too small for the eye to see) from above to give the contrast paint a better surface to cling too. Contrast paints don’t work well on black primers, the colours won’t show up well.
