Being an Unreal Engine Programmer | Unreal Educator Livestream
On this week’s Educator Livestream, we discuss what it means to be an Unreal Engine programmer and the different types of programmers that work at Epic Games and in the games, film and visualization industries.
Tom and Mark will be joined by our special guests Jeff Farris (Principal Programmer, Special Projects), Kyle Langley (Technical Designer, Fortnite) and David Hill (Principal Mathematician, Unreal Engine) who discuss their roles at Epic Games, their day to day work, and sharing some of the projects they have worked on.
We talk to each of them to reflect on their own education and career journeys and ask them to look to the future and give us some insight into the skills that the next generation of programmers will need to become the next generation of games and engine programmers. We also explore the differences and commonality between the different types of programmers employed at Epic and in the industry as a whole such as: Gameplay Programmers, Engine Programmers and Rendering Engineers.
