Beta Cursed Palace | Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy
1-read description for more info/incoherent rambling-
This was the original intended design of the Cursed Palace of Heliopolis before it was reworked into a simplified design to save on time. It is quite unfortunate, this original design is really well done, and is much more fitting of a Pharaoh than the small palace seen in the final.
It's interesting, if I must say, that there's a lot of text pertaining to plot and storylines that were changed or removed, such as the mention of Ishka and the Pharaoh's wife mentioning entirely different things when referring to the Pharaoh's obsession.
It's a shame, actually. There's so much content that was stripped from this game that it kind of affects the story a bit. I mean, it's a great game, and the story isn't half bad, but it's very obvious that the plot is held together with sticky tape and hope. There are too many plot points that don't make too much sense, like needing to save Ketta for no particular reason. Why was she even captured? Looking at a few old objectives used to track process, there's a mention of "HorusFreed" related to 'DarkArea3', the place where you fight the Geb Queen, maybe Horus' form was being used by Set originally, which considering a deleted map features Akhenaten, Ishka, and the Heliopolis Pharaoh locked in Uruk Jail, my idea isn't too far fetched.
Of course, this is just my speculation, who really knows what the original plot to this game is, though it would be pretty interesting to find out. That's enough rambling from me, if anyone has their own thoughts or whatever about this map, over even this game in particular, it'd be cool to hear.
