(English below) Atari Jaguar es bien conocida por ser uno de los grandes fracasos de la historia de los videojuegos. No fueron muchos los juegos que se llegaron a lanzar en formato cartucho, solo alrededor de 50, pero menos aun fueron los que se lanzaron para su periférico que permitía jugar a juegos en formato CD. Solo fueron 13, aunque se pueden encontrar en la red algunos más que estaban terminados o casi, y no se llegaron a lanzar antes de que la consola fuese retirada de las tiendas. Aquí pruebo los 13 que sí se lanzaron.

La mayoría de estos juegos no los había jugado nunca antes, así que me disculpo de antemano por jugar tan mal XD Únicamente había jugado a Myst en PC, y puede que a Dragon's Lair (creo que jugué una versión remasterizada, pero no lo recuerdo bien). En algunos de ellos claramente se necesita algo de práctica para poder jugarlos bien, y conocer bien los controles. Si veis el mando de Atari Jaguar, tiene una especie de pequeño teclado, y algunos juegos lo usan para varias funciones.

En general, de estos 13 solo unos pocos se podrían considerar decentes. Creo que los mejores son Hover Strike (aunque se juega realmente mal a causa de su bajo framerate) e Iron Soldier 2. Son los que se sienten más divertidos. Juegos como Dragon's Lair y Space Ace, aunque juegos míticos del FMV, apenas se podrían considerar juegos, son películas en las que hay que pulsar el botón correcto justo en el momento correcto para que continúen, puro ensayo y error, por lo que en mi opinión a día de hoy son más una curiosidad que algo que realmente merezca la pena jugar. Lo mismo con BrainDead 13. Myst, pues en su día estaba bien, pero no ha envejecido demasiado bien, aun así es un juego muy recordado por los amantes de las aventuras gráficas.

Sea como sea, está genial poder tener un emulador en el que poder jugar, ahora sí, el catálogo al completo de esta consola tanto en cartucho como en CD, y casi sin errores. Por mucho que fracasara, no deja de ser historia del videojuego, y algunos de sus juegos sí merecen la pena, al menos, probarlos.

Uso uno de los shader incluidos en el paquete de shaders que se puede bajar en la misma web del emulador. Mola porque imita el estilo visual del CRT y tiene reflejos en el marco. Este mismo shader, llamado Mega Bezel, está también disponible para RetroArch. Para el último juego cambio a CRT-Hyllian porque se mostraba con la relación de aspecto incorrecta.

Atari Jaguar is well known for being one of the biggest failures in the history of videogames. Not many games were released in cartridge format, only about 50, but even fewer were released for its peripheral that allowed to play games in CD format. There were only 13, although you can find on the net some more that were finished or almost finished, and were not released before the console was retired. Here I test the 13 that were released.

Most of these games I had never played before, so I apologize in advance for playing them so badly XD I had only played Myst on PC, and maybe Dragon's Lair (I think I played a remastered version, but I don't remember it well). In some of them you clearly need some practice to be able to play them well, and know the controls. If you see the Atari Jaguar controller, it has a kind of small keyboard, and some games use it for several functions.

Overall, out of these 13 only a few could be considered decent. I think the best ones are Hover Strike (although it plays really bad because of its low framerate) and Iron Soldier 2. They are the ones that feel the most fun. Games like Dragon's Lair and Space Ace, although legendary FMV games, could hardly be considered games, as they are movies where you have to press the right button just at the right time for them to continue, pure trial and error, so in my opinion nowadays they are more of a curiosity than something really worth playing. The same with BrainDead 13. Myst, well in its day it was good, but it hasn't aged well, even so it's a game well remembered by adventure gamers.

Anyway, it's great to have an emulator in which you can play, now yes, the entire catalog of this console both in cartridge and CD format, and almost without errors. As much as it failed, it is still videogame history, and some of its games are worth, at least, try.
