Biomotor Unitron Game Sample 1/2 - NeoGeo Pocket Color
Biomotor Unitron is one of my favorite NGP(C) games and one of the few I still have CIB (along with a couple Japanese titles, Gal Fighters, and Card Fighter's Clash -- SNK Ver.), and it's one of the most compotent role-playing games for the system. Oddly enough, many people think this handheld was only released in Japan and areas near Japan, but the platform was released in Europe, some areas in the U.S., and several other locations. This is a series of videos for the English version of the game.
199 years prior on the planet "Elscea", a meteor crashed on the planet during its dark age, when the inhabitants of Elscea were engulfed in a hate-filled world war. As the fighting ensued and people were filled with despair, many had died until it was discovered that the meteor, which would one day be called "The Unitice", fell into a lake on Tridiss, Elscea's largest continent, vaporizing it instantly and left behind many crystals across the Kingdom of Rhafiace.
The crystals, called Uni-Trons, contain unlimited power, which Rhafiace used to develop humanoid combat robots called Unitrons. These robots tipped the scales in Rhafiace's favor and led to their victory in the war. Now its present day, where wounds have healed and people have forgotten the war and live in peace. The Unitrons are no longer used as weapons for war, but for many purposes intertwined with everyday life. The most popular use for Unitrons is to send them to battle in a reknowned tournament for fame and fortune, and those who participate fight their way up the ranks in the hopes of recieving the coveted title, "Master of Masters". This is where you, the player come in, though there's a few additions and twists to the story as well.
In the game, you are in charge of the growth of two characters, a Battler & Engineer, that you can select amongst several races: Humans, Foresters, Mariners, Birdians, and Lizardmen. These characters start with different default attributes and model designs, but are largely a matter of preference (they share mostly the same main plot, with a few differences). The Battler will do the majority of the work such as fighting, going to dungeons, and interacting with townsfolk in the kingdom of Rhafiace, which is your base of operations. The Engineer is not to be taken lightly however, as they can also gain levels and become better at crafting arms for you to use in battle, which there are quite a few and some are essential to taking down tough foes or altering your stats in certain ways to gain an advantage.
The shop gets better items for your Unitron as you participate in the Arena and your engineer can upgrade your body from time to time. A Battler gains improved control of a Unitron (stat-up) upon levels, and the higher your level, the less experience some enemies will give. Each main dungeon is comprised of seven areas that are randomly shuffled (sans Area 7) and are meant to help you build up your level and funds for the arena. The fun comes in customizing your robot (which looks different with the many items you equip, even depending on which hand it's set to) and developing/finding as many items as possible. I also like the bits of personality amongst NPCs, most of which have first and last names. It's a fun game with a little replayability and can be more fun if you have a system link to trade with others. I recommend it if you're looking for a RPG-style game for the NGPC. There is a Japan-only sequel as well which was meant to be released in English but was canceled. These videos show 20+ mins of different things from the Town/Dungeon/Arena. Enjoy.
