Puzzle Link 2 Game Sample - NeoGeo Pocket Color
Puzzle Link 2 ("Tsunagete Pon! 2" or "つなげてポンッ!2") is part of a "series" that came in three flavors: The B&W game, a remake of it in color, and a sequel in color (Tsunagete Pon! 2). The color remake and the sequel would both actually get released in the U.S. under the name of Puzzle Link & Puzzle Link 2, respectively. It's a neat handheld puzzler and one of the best NGPC has to offer.
Puzzle Link / Tsunagete Pon! has a pretty simple premise. As Ace, Lyon, Moomy and crew (they have different names in the Japanese game, such as Moomy being Mui Mui), the object is to destroy like-shapes by connecting "pipes" that reach to them. When you have a proper network going, it'll detonate automatically to destroy all like-objects connected to the pipe. From there, falling objects can also be destroyed, creating chains. Destroy objects quickly to raise the stack faster so you can detonate the "C" tiles to clear the stage. In Puzzle Link 2, you can also manually speed up your stack, which makes clearing stages faster a little easier.
There is a sort of gauge on the left that runs down as you play. Clearing a stage before it empties earns you "Character Cards", strange little cards that you can collect. In Puzzle Link 2, there are different sets of cards based on these main categories: "10", "J", "Q", "K", and "A". There are twenty cards of each of these types and the cards you gain can also be used to play a card-battling game (where you need at least two of each type). Clearing the five main categories in the main card mode will unlock a sixth set of levels which are the most challenging of all and will reveal the ending/credits of the game. Overall, Puzzle Link 2 is more of the same; slightly better visuals, more music and modes, and a more thorough experience.
This video shows a few stages and several modes within the game, ending with an intentional Game Over. Enjoy.
