Wizardry [ウィザードリィ シナリオ1 狂王の試練場] Game Sample - WonderSwan Color
It's Wizardry (Scenario 1) on the WonderSwan Color, with some changes from Sting (Yddgra Union, Riviera, etc.). You can view the dungeons in the classic "wireframe/line" format, or view them as seen in this video. You can also set the dialogue to English...though some things still seem to be in Japanese (names of items and such). I didn't show the English in this video, but you can set the game to English by clicking "Option" on the title screen and changing the very first option (Message).
Truthfully, I'm not fond of most of the Wizardry games; found them very annoying and random. Money being random, enemy HP being random, level ups and damage dealt (to you and the enemy) being VERY random and I only really cared for Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land for the PS2. Everything isn't COMPLETELY random, but random within a certain range...that range being pretty stupid to me. I hit an enemy group with a spell...one suffers 35 damage and another suffers 6...I mean, really?
I would understand something like between 20-30 or even 15-30, but 6? It might even go lower than that. The "Suikoden/Original FF" style magic system doesn't help either in such a random case. My Lord has 94 HP...if I use all of my level 1 magic, I could possibly JUST HEAL HIM only 9 HP??? What a waste of time...I find that to be sickeningly annoying. Sorry to those that like the earlier Wizardry games, but that's the way I see it.
It's hard to level up, hard to gain money (unless you love creating units then erasing them) and you work so hard in a dungeon, only to get to a low level and lose all your semi-powerful units because healing spells want to be ineffective all of a sudden or attack magic wants to deal BS damage when it can deal rockin' damage...It feels like a whole lot of unnecessary luck is involved...those things aside, the visuals are very average...however, if you are familiar with Wizardry as a whole, then visuals aren't a big concern. The music fits the environments and is decent. You can (according to the Sting webpage for Wizardry) unlock a "Survival" mode after completing the game.
If you like Wizardry on a console, then you may like it on a portable like the WonderSwan (Color).
