Dark Arms: Beast Buster 1999 Game Sample - NeoGeo Pocket Color
DA:BB1999 is based on an old and obscure arcade title simply titled "Beast Busters". However, if you take one look at the old artwork for the arcade cabinet and look at this game, one would wonder how the heck they're even related. DA has undergone many changes, ditching the "B-Movie-ish" artwork and going for a serious look.
This is an interesting game where you play with a Beast Buster named Ziad (by default) who goes to the world of darkness to create an ultimate firearm to obliterate even the most powerful of dark and evil creatures. You speak to a reaper-like fellow who gives you info and teaches you how to craft and power-up your dark arms. Using a "catcher", you must catch enemies and use the demons as food to power up your weapon, imbue them with elemental force and eventually evolve the weapons into newer weapons.
You gain experience points for the weapons, but only when you enter and leave an area...weapons get stronger with experience. The game also has night and day sequences, with different things occuring at different times. The visuals are pretty cool for the handheld, as is the music. The enemies are a little tough at times, but I think the game is pretty decent. However, I can't say more, since I haven't finished the game. It's interesting.
