Raku Jongg [落雀] Game Sample - WonderSwan Color
Raku Jongg is the WonderSwan Color port of Raku Jongg that was originally made for PCs. After the PC version came out, a Playstation port was made with an enhanced PC version and this WSC port following afterwards. We made a video for Goku Raku Jongg (a sequel of sorts) some time ago.
This game combines a standard "drop-style" puzzler, Mahjongg, Slot Pachinko (Pachislo), and other elements into one game. The game has your typical chains, but it also adheres to some of the rules found in Japanese Mahjong(g). More than simply forming chains, you should be mindful of what tiles you remove from the game, as they can be put into pairs and the like to perform "Rīchi" (Reach, or Ready Hand). In addition to simply performing rīchi, you get whisked away into a variety of short mini-games that can determine how many points you score, how many points you deduct from your opponent, ecetera. Unlike many drop puzzlers, the object isn't to outlast or attack out-right, but to have the most points at the end.
In this game, the "main" character you use is Nasuo, a guy walking along sad and depressed one night. He's thinking about a woman he adores, Julietta, a beautiful blonde who is dreaming of being married and whisked away in a beautiful wedding dress. Nasuo is poor and can't afford to impress her with an expensive and over-the-top wedding dress...until opportunity comes knocking, or rather, lightning starts crashing down and Nasuo stops in front of a strange building.
He finds a notice on the front of the building...challenging him to compete in a competition for a huge cash prize. He realizes that if he could win the Raku Jongg contest, he'd have money to buy Julietta the dress of her dreams. Now, with a burning desire to win, Nasuo enters the building and the contest begins.
You meet various goofy characters and play various rounds of Raku Jongg. The girl in the red chinese dress is Aria, also referred to as "Milk & Sugar", and she is a mascot that does various things while you play.
This is a very decent WSC puzzle game (though some more music would have been nice), but it is on the rare side. Enjoy.
