218Ever wondered what Dark Souls would be like if it took a religious turn, and the art style was absolutely beautiful pixel art? Well, Blasphemous is exactly that. We recorded this Blasphemous gameplay at Gamescom 2019. Created by a team from Seville, Spain, Blasphemous takes a lot of inspiration from their local folklore. And it shows. In this Blasphemous gameplay you’ll see what you can expect from the game at around the two to three hour mark, and you’ll see a few of the gameplay mechanics you can expect to see. We also see how the levelling system works, how the upgrades work - aka rosary beads - how the penalty system works - less harsh than Dark Souls - and that golden thing which I didn’t get the name of, but it’s a checkpoint I promise.
The main character is called The Pentinet One, and your sword is called Mea Culpa. I think that helps set the tone for the game if: Dark Souls but Religious didn’t. It’s good fun though, and the combat is exciting. A good thing for those who love action but aren’t so bothered by chat and story: the NPCs in Blasphemous are entirely optional. They add to the story and they can sometimes give you goodies to help you move forward in the game.
