2My first of the very few TurboGrafx games I own. The TurboGrafx (Known as the PC Engine in Japan) never saw a proper release here in Europe, all with the exception of a test market model - Blazing Lazers was the pack-in. Fortunately Blazing Lazers is also a rather badass pack-in.
It might look slow now to those used to the bullet-hell shooters of recent time but Blazing Lazers (also known as Gunhead in Japan) is one of the premier shmups of the late 80s, atleast on home consoles. It has great music, solid controls and ultimately makes for a reasonable benchmark for the pseudo 16-bit console.
They say the PC Engine is one of the best consoles for shmups and I believe Blazing Lazers plays quite a part in showing why that is.
