Never have I been quite as delighted with a blind purchase like Blast Works. If you need a solid example of how the Wii has some of the more original and intriguing third party releases of the current generation then this will do it.

Based on ABA Games' Tumiki Fighters, Blast Works plays like a standard shmup in that you progress throughout stages that increase in difficulty over time and with a mandatory OTT end boss. Yet unlike other shmups, your weapon upgrades are not formed from power drops or gradual level increases but from expanding your own ship with the bad guys you just killed.

The madness generated in Blast Works is equal to any bullet hell shooter because of this and sometimes the number of enemies built onto your own ship can take up more than half the screen!

This video goes through the entire fourth campaign and in co-op just to show the true insanity that this little game represents. I think you really should give this one a try.
