Bloons TD 6 - Etienne's Cylindrical Thinking with Smart Spikes
So I looked over Etienne's page on the Bloons Wikia, throwing in a few edits of my own about some of his usage, and as I did, I noticed how there was a point about the community seeing him as inept on release. I looked over my videos for evidence that I would have known the entire time about Drone Swarm being efficient against singleton targets such as the Round 40 MOAB because my points about Etienne being technical in general somehow didn't cover that. My videos sadly were too hit-or-miss since I would either place Etienne in the back out of paranoia about leaks, or DS late on Round 40 likely to chip the Ceramic children.
What I did notice, however, is that when I did the Cylindrical Thinking Odyssey with Etienne, on Downstream, I actually skipped over Spiked Mines for Spectre on Round 57.
I can go into detail about what happens during the 50s, but first, I should cover about how I went with challenging myself to get SMFC before Round 40, which with Etienne is an endeavor here thanks to Round 37's and 38's buddy system Leads. I end up needing the Spiked Balls with the crosspath upgrade to stem the entire threat. BTW, if SB were to deal 1 extra damage to Leads, each Lead would take 9 hits rather than 13, which would be a vast improvement over Leads having a prime number of layers. Interesting.
Regardless, I use Drone Swarm on Round 38 and it brings up the convenience that one of the temporary Drones is on Last Targeting, so it will shoot at the reinforcements past the Leads, thinning the headcount layering pressure on the Spiked Balls. I don't know how this would have looked without the (still warranted) Version 21 buff to Drone Swarm's duration, but honestly, Drone Swarm, when used right to circumvent the cooldown issues, is shockingly good in general because the Drones' Pierce value is a "just right" value where there isn't much to waste yet potentially interfering lesser bloons just get wiped quickly unable to protect primary targets. Yes, you see correctly that I use Drone Swarm on Round 39 to effectiveness, and it helps that I didn't buy the crosspath upgrades for Dart, which means affording SMFC sooner to have his own activation up in time for the Round 40 MOAB. Drone Swarm is by no means an all-encompassing solution even if we ignore how it doesn't directly do anything to Leads, but it's capable of versatility particularly while Etienne is waiting for other options, and especially works best then as a complement to whatever his support is.
Getting on subject of Rounds 49 to 57, I should cite that for most Heroes, the most dangerous Rounds would be 51 and 56 due to Camo shenanigans, ESPECIALLY 56. See that nice little thumbnail that I use? Yeah, speaks for itself how butchered the Camo Rainbows got when I didn't have to use an activation for them. However, the more conventional threats did warrant thought about the activations. See how I used only SMFC on Round 49? Yeah, save up Drone Swarm for 50; the Fortified Leads behind the MOAB will be horrible otherwise. SMFC recharges before anything else gets out of hand. 52 and 54 also have MOABs accommodated by spaced regular Ceramics, so those require activations. 55 is the star Round, though, because there are FOUR Ceramic clusters and there's a delay between each of them, meaning that UCAV, which does become available, has to be timed to catch at least the 2nd to 4th ones, since the 4th one WILL overwhelm the Spiked Balls. This was easier before Version 23's duration nerf, although not by a whole lot. Version 26's UCAV damage nerf simply emphasizes UCAV being used on scenarios like this rather than as a catch-all solution. And 57? SMFC and Drone Swarm are ready to stump the MOAB pairs. Spectre. Enjoy 20 rounds of being able to AFK, including Rounds 59 and 63.
Oh, and before anybody says anything about Spectre dealing better damage to Ceramics, Round 82 with PMFC being purchased instead of Spiked Mines would have been passed on Version 27 via UCAV usage. Nothing else would be worth bringing up.
I may as well go into details about the early Spectre notion: I feel Etienne is the only character who makes it reasonable to handle this, aside from maybe Churchill, who still would have to bear Round 78's Camo Ceramic cluster in mind. Besides that Spiked Mines with Smart Spikes doesn't hold Round 63 well at all, the Camo crosspath for SMFC and Neva-Miss just have problems in general, and when as-is I'm having to think with the DPS crosspaths that Etienne can even get away with to, you see why I'm screeching at Round 56's Camo Rainbows in particular, which have the added bonus of being right after Round 55's Ceramic clusters. NinjaKiwi is right to nuance buff the Camo crosspaths to provide Radar Village with competition, but no rest for the weary when UAV is still going to speak for itself as it certainly does here.
