Bloons TD 6 - Frontliner Pat Fusty's Axis of Havoc
Whaddyaknow. This IS possible. Oh, and I got the Mauler MOAB skin trophy. I gotta say that the Mauler MOABs look rather cartoony in actual battle. So I chose well.
This is a significant time improvement with Pat Fusty, though I still maintain that direct comparison with Gwendolin is warranted. Pat can still damage Purples, but the failure to hit Camo at all on his own is still the bigger concern. At least Gwendolin has activation abilities that can try, even if the first one, which is available for R24's Camo Green, has some RNG issues.
At this point, I can point out about how Pat has messy hit detection. I definitely do see a moment on Round 15 where Pat doesn't damage a Yellow where he hits even though he had not used up his Pierce for that attack. I do suppose that spaced bloons should be Pat's non-Camo blind spot, but I do think the reasons for as much should be reasonably coherent.
There are rounds early on where there is a freaking Red wandering through a long portion of the track for a good while while nothing interesting gets to happen. I guarantee that standard Heroes would have used their not-abysmal range to prevent this boring scenario. I supposed I could have given up about $50 on deploying Headshot early, but this wouldn't have been fair to the other Heroes. At least I employ a bite of creativity, though: having the Middle Path Sniper be the top Sniper, so as to get the most of the shrapnel with Rallying Roar boosting. I do have to be methodical with my micromanagement in the early 30s, but it's worth it to get Pat to make the most of his Snipers.
Pat proves solid enough that he can actually have the best of both worlds with his innate flood busting and his Rallying Roar buffing, but the whole ordeal still brings up that Pat feels incomplete in gameplay simply because of his low range still giving him difficulty in participation if he is not completely in the front where Rallying Roar loses effectiveness. I can use this video in particular to make my point about how Rallying Roar could stand to give Pat a significant self-buff, because I can point out that Gwendolin can achieve better results with the same positioning thanks to her actual range competence letting her snipe problematic threats. Pat does at least get the credit of slowing down blimps, but Gwendolin can still boost every tower on the map to actually damage Leads and deal more damage that's guaranteed to puncture the blimp layers more easily, and it's to the point where I got a faster time with her despite significantly more mistakes with placement handling, than what I got with Pat here.
At least now we can be sure that balancing Pat better wouldn't have to be done in the interest of giving him viability when he has that in spades. What would be the point would be giving him options and fun factor, a way to better show TLC with the game.
