Tonight was Midsummer's night, the night before the Summer Solstice, when people make bonfires, do stupid things with fire such as hop through fire, wear funny hats made of leaves and get drunk. So I will be making a rather smaller sort of bonfire, make funny hats out of leaves, do stupid things with fire and get drunk. With a couple of my friends and with you!

I didn't film that much of the festivities per se, I was too busy festivizing. That's a word. Festivizing. Look it up. Webster that bitch.

Okay, it's not really a word.

The traditional time for celebrating Midsummer is actually the 23rd of June, I chose to celebrate it on the more astronomically correct time which is the night before the summer solstice. However, if you want to emulate my bad example and have a Midsummer's Night party, you could still do it on the 23rd.

It is one of the few European festival days that is still fundamentally a pre-Christian festival. It's pagan, the Church Fathers just slapped the name of a saint on it (St. John's Day), gritted their teeth, and hoped people didn't turn in their church membership the next day and start worshiping under oaks. And under the influence of a lethal hangover the next day and possibly some regret over who or what they shared the sack with the night before, people might in fact have been in the mood for a little godfearing repentance the next morning, so it probably worked out okay for the Church in that respect.
