I bought Brink last week when it was dirt-cheap on Steam, played a few online matches and had some fun with it. I know it's a dying game and it's not Battlefield 3 or anything, but an eternal multiplayer noob like me really appreciates games which are so strongly oriented towards tangible objectives, and that radial "this is what you could meaningfully do now" menu is as good a way as any to stop me running around like a scared chicken without knowing where to go or what to do.

As in BF3, there's also an unexpected level of satisfaction to be had by simply supporting the team and making an effort as a medic, hacker of enemy terminals or performer of other seemingly menial tasks. Though mindnumbing repetition is a real issue with this genre, at least in theory I *do* appreciate even the arcade-style precision required by a game like Modern Warfare (which isn't half as dumbed down as has become conventional wisdom by now), but since I suck at, y'know, placing the crosshair over enemies fast enough I'm always going to get more out of a much more team- and mission-based online FPS like Brink or DICE's latest military manshooter.
