One problem with Bethesda's "increase skills by actually using them" system is that once you've finally maxed out your two or three main combat-related skills (which took me around 60 hours) you don't gain experience levels by simply killing enemies anymore. Fortunalety, especially if you're a spellcaster or melee weapon user there are some closely related skills that you can switch your attention to, and in my case it involved exchanging my one-handed swords and heavy armor for light armor and two-handed sword (Berserker-style!). One very noticeable aspect of this is that the game's difficulty obviously increases dramatically when you're facing high-level enemies while relying on skills you haven't practiced much in the past and thus have not been able to invest any perk points in at all...
