I've uploaded over 30 videos of Skyrim so far (counting the unnumbered ones as well) but none of these very short clips have really focused on what is by far the best aspect of the game; simply exploring the world at your own pace. With that in mind, this almost completely unedited footage of random gameplay is meant to convey a little bit of the feeling of what it's like to just wander around and discover things.

The video starts somewhere just west of Riverwood in the leafy southwestern territory known as Falkreath Hold (a vast region which I've hardly even visited despite having spent around 70 hours with the game so far). I travel alongside one of Skyrim's smaller mountain ranges, before eventually turning north into the easternmost parts of The Reach - another vast region in the game - and then finally walking out on the great central plains where the main roads take me to the small town of Rorikstead.

During the course of these 20 minutes, I'm actively avoiding any proper side quests but even so, there's quite a bit of stuff going on in this video. I visit the Half-Moon Mill and chat with a villager there, nervously keep track of a dragon circling the valley, stumble upon a small cabin in the woods called Hunter's Rest, meet a small group of Stormcloak soldiers (who are none to happy to see me), get into a fight with a few outlaws outside their camp at Knifepoint Ridge, deal with a threatening guy called Deep-In-His-Cups, meet a hostile witch up at Glenmoril Coven, raid a bandit hideout at Bilegulch Mine and finally steal some drugs from a poor Argonian who I happen to meet on the road.

It's the frequency of experiences like these - as well as the variety and quality of the environments within which they take place - that makes Skyrim's world so rewarding to freely explore. This also sets the game apart from earlier TES titles, which have all tried to deliver something similar but had neither the technology nor the attention to detail to support such an ambitious design approach.
