2Saints Row: The Third is brilliantly excessive both in terms of the sheer, unabashed tastelessness of the whole enterprise as well as in the actual content the game provides. I've barely scratched the surface yet (this video features yet another very early mission), but more than any other open world game SR3 is first and foremost about empowering the player by constantly giving him or her access to crazy new tools of destruction combined with almost unprecedented means to utilize them (for example, character upgrades include unlimited ammo and health improvements which come pretty close to constituting a full-on God Mode). "Adolescent Power Fantasy" is a term originally used by Jeff Vogel of Spiderweb Software to describe his approach to game design, but I think Saints Row's developer Volition Inc. should seriously consider appropriating that term for themselves...
