Bruckner - Symphony No. 8 "Apocalyptic", Movement 2 (Pokémon DPP Soundfont)
The Scherzo of this symphony begins in a somewhat spectral fashion, tremolo strings doing much to create this particular atmosphere. As we'll find out, these tremolo strings persist throughout most of the affairs (the very frequent use of this technique was an infamously characteristic feature of Bruckner's symphonies), and yet the mood changes drastically from event to event, as new harmonic and expressive territories are explored (2:17-2:35 is a particularly interesting example of this, in yours truly's opinion). In fact, when this Scherzo concludes it does so in a joyous and extroverted character, quite different from what its opening would have led us to believe.
The Trio, as was also typical of Bruckner, is much slower and calmer (4:57). Something else of interest here is that this is one of the few instances in Bruckner's music in which the harp makes an appearance (6:48).
When the main Scherzo section returns, it does so note for note (9:43).
