Bulletstorm Demo (2011) (PC) (People Can Fly)
I've played both the PS3 and PC versions of the Bulletstorm demo by now (only very briefly on the latter platform just to see if it could run on my computer at all, which it surprisingly did), and I feel like I should care more about the game more than I actually do. Here's a shooter which clearly deviates from the "corporate military" trend in today's tired FPS landscape, but somehow it just doesn't do much for me personally. The whole "kill with skill" mechanic is nice, I guess, but since I'm not particularly interested in experimenting with different play styles and combos it all comes off as a bit contrived. On the whole, I felt the similarily themed Borderlands mixed things up in more appealing and cleverly stupid ways by simply adding addictive XP and loot elements on top of its conventional shooter mechanics, rather than basing the whole gameplay around obligatory performance-related rewards.
