Might & Magic VIII is not exactly the best title in the venerable RPG series, but the last game based on the Mandate of Heaven engine can be just as entertaining and addicting as the earlier ones...as long as you're prepared to overlook a few pretty glaring gameplay issues (having dragons as party members sounds unbalanced...and it is!) as well as a slightly smaller game world than usual.

Arguably the greatest thing about MM8 is the wild creativity which characterizes almost every aspect of the game. The cookie-cutter classes of MM6-MM7 are replaced with fanciful races such as War Trolls, Minotaur Lords and Liches, and instead of exploring elven forests or picturesque hamlets you're delving deep into teeming jungles, clearing out sprawling nests full of giant wasps and taking a stroll through a city of the undead. There's the sense that the developers went out of their way to come up with crazy new ideas and things players hadn't seen before in a Might & Magic game, and while some of their gameplay additions were less successful than others MM8 is still a really fine game which is well worth spending 40-50 hours on even (and perhaps especially) if you've previously finished both MM6 and MM7.
