87Though they were successful in their explorations of the lodge with the assistance of Manningly, the consequences of their investigations are starting to take their toll and I’m not referring to just this foray into the terrible unknown. Over time the fresh-faced and inquisitive investigators have been subjected time and again to horrors and that which should not be and though sometimes they have nor prevailed, most of them have survived. Their survival has come at a cost in the slow loss of sanity they’re struggling to regain, in the injuries they’re sustaining and in the secrets of the true workings of the universe they cannot unlearn. Not all wounds they sustain can be healed by medicine, for their minds grow ever more open to the eternal misery of knowing that which they should not, that which eats away at them.
If only they could take time away from the horrors they’ve seen and recover, but in dealing with the lodge have they have made a powerful enemy, one that dwarfs the last group they faced? If so, what hope do they have against them?
