Call Of The Zone - #132: A Day In The Life Of A Loner ( Part 2 )
After a Psi Storm takes place, I notice a Loner just standing in the middle of the road, halfway to the Garbage Hangar. he's not moving but just standing there which is rather odd. I get a message that Monolith nearby have taken a wounded unknown person. Fearing that the Loner will get killed just standing there, I tell him to come with me which is the same thing as hiring a Companion. We return to the Flea Market cellar where I place him with the others. I go back to my stash and adjust my load out.
It is foggy and hard to see far. I find a Pseudogiant just south of the bus stop, across the street from the Garbage Hangar. My target acquisition scope detects enemy NPCs going south from the Hangar, moving on the far side of the south-western pile, possible the Monolith leaving that location. Then I spot a Loner inside the walled compound but in the south courtyard not inside the main building. This is also odd, not to be moving. I decide to move in closer, hoping the fog will help me avoid the Pseudogiant. I find a dead Loner at the campfire inside the main building and my Mini-Map shows the Loner just outside is my Companion but I've never met him.
Then I realize when I hired the first Loner standing in the middle of the road, this must have been the other member of his squad. Maybe the squad leader had been killed by the Monolith inside and somehow the other two Loners froze in place. I quickly told him to follow me and we leave the compound, cross the road and I see the other Loner running to us to help escort his buddy back to my other Companions. I stuff all seven of them inside the small room. I go back up and am standing there with a lone Mercenary.
My Mini-Map now shows 9 contacts but there should only be 8. In my heightened state of readiness, I accidently shoot the Mercenary who I mistook for an unknown NPC sneaking up on us, and got the friendly fire message. Luckily, I had made a manual save right after parking my new Companions and I load that to undo my error. This time I catch the Freedom Exoskeleton who I could hear but not see yet, killing him in the same place I had killed the Mercenary.
It gets dark and I switch to night vision. Some Zombies come from the west and I take them out once they get close enough. Other NPCs soon arrive and they are allies who check out the dead Zombies. Later I go back to the eastern pile and shoot at mutants around it. I hear gunfire back at the Flea market and rush back to see what is happening and find a dead Bloodsucker had attacked the Mercenary but he was okay. A passing Ecologist walks by. An Emission hits and I have to force everyone out of the cellar room so I can get in it and then have them join me. It is difficult to manage this many people in tight spaces.
