Capcom Fighting Evolution (Capcom Fighting Collection 2) - Arcade Mode
Even now, I find it hard to believe that some of the most beloved Capcom fighting games from the Dreamcast/Xbox era are finally back courtesy of 'Capcom Fighting Collection 2' (and mind you, all of the games featured in this collection haven't seen a single console port since the Dreamcast/Xbox days up until this point). Therefore, in celebration of this monumental occasion, I've decided to try something different here. Using default game settings (save for nostalgic music tracks from past Capcom fighting games) plus default visual/sound settings, I'm going to see how far I can progress through the arcade version of 'Capcom Fighting Evolution' with only one credit.
Whether 'Capcom Fighting Evolution' should be replaced by any other Capcom fighting game in this particular collection is wholly up for debate, but as a title which initially saw release for Japanese arcades in 2004 before seeing subsequent ports for the PlayStation 2 in 2004 (2005 for the European market) and the Xbox in 2005, I think it deserves its rightful place in the annals of Capcom arcade fighting game history despite its troubled production. One reason why this game is looked down upon by fighting game fans is because of the fact that all of the characters featured in this title (save for Ingrid) were essentially cut-and-pasted from past 2D Capcom fighting games (and saw significant cuts in animation frames). Additionally, many fan favorites such as Morrigan and Sagat were relegated to background cameos (and if that infamous rendition of T. Hawk, AKA Ken from 'Street Fighter III: Third Strike' but traced over, is any indication, most, if not all of the background features aren't great in comparison to many other 2D Capcom fighting games).
So yeah, in retrospect, 'Capcom Fighting Evolution' isn't an absolutely horrible game overall (what with the cool Shinkiro art and all), but given everything that happened before and during this game's development, it's certainly not good when compared to many other 2D Capcom fighting games. That being said, let's see how well I do with Yun and Demitri here.
