Guess what I just found, My fellow Gamers?
A totally insane VR game that had a terrible start, but, got The Update it needed to be something that can be playable and totally over the top, and after my first try, I can tell, this is a New game type for VR, and a game type we all wanted, Badly.
Microprose...Remember that name? Remember that logo?
Well, it seems someone is at least licensing their old IPs, and someone grabbed an old school fav from Wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy back in the day.
I'm guessing this was played by a teenage me on a Tandy 1000, Maybe a jacked C64, but I'm thinking this one on the good old DOS Radioshack Tandy computer.
So, FIRSTLY...there is almost no instruction on this game, and ZERO for VR specific content...so, theres a LOT of fumbling, a lot of random button pressing, whatever, just a LOT of experimentation to try to figure out this beast of a game/simulation.
Carrier Command 2 VR is a RTS, in VR, where the player, or GROUP of players all take part in running a futuristic Aircraft carrier, Epsilon, sent to protect and retake islands that are providing resources to Earth. Mounting the task of overtaking a large number or islands, and eventually attacking and destroying a sister ship/Enemy aircraft carrier, Omega, which is operating in the same vicinity as you are.
Think...Star Trek Bridge Commander, meets Command and Conquer, meets an old school flight sim, meets a resource management game...Ya, weird I know...but it works.
This is NOT a fast game...hours turn into days in this game, no doubt...BEWARE, My Fellow Gamers...this one will suck you right in.
From a number of stations you control the Aircraft Carrier, and manage the fleet of land and air vehicles stored below decks, each of which is a separate entity that can be loaded out and customized as needed per mission, which is super cool.
The game is just too complex to write about...This is the First training mission, it wasnt easy, there's a LOT to figure out with minimal direction in game, But, its worth it, and Kudos to Microprose to re-appearing, and reaching out to the VR community to support and help to get their games VR ready, for taking the time to actually stick with it, Update this game, and make it 100 times better with one decent update, fingers crossed that vibe continues, and the name Microprose starts to ring out as a VR leader, with cool, interesting games that challenge players and extend what a game can mean.
