Cart Fury - Classic Arcade Formula Racing Game (Midway 2000)
Cart Fury is a classic open-wheel arcade formula racing game that was developed by Midway and first launched to arcades in 2000.
The first thing to note about this game is that while it does show a working status in emulators like MAME, the emulation isn't perfect, and the cars centering is way off. Now Regardless of which vehicle you choose, all of them pull very hard to the left during virtually every race, and attempting to recalibrate the controls for whatever device you're using to play with doesn't seem to remedy this situation.
As for the game play, the opponents are super aggressive! They will often ram into you from virtually all sides, often causing you to wipe out completely as a result.
Passing checkpoints fills your boost meter, which is quite limited, and there's no other way to charge it up except for crossing those checkpoints.
There's also a super boost, which despite its visual effects, is actually worse than the standard boost, but it also gives you the ability to wipe out virtually any vehicles in your path.
Your vehicles do take damage from scrubbing against walls and hitting opponents.
The game features 10 tracks from number of international locales; including those from America, Germany, Brazil, and Canada. The game also features season and season modes.
The game also featured some notable names in terms of racing legends; such as Michael Andretti, Bryan Herta, Juan Montoya, and Jimmy Vasser, among others.
Besides the original arcade title, Cart Fury was also ported to the Sony Playstation 2 console in 2001 in both North American and European markets.
While the PS2 version is certainly more stable, we chose the original arcade version for the video.
The arcade and PS2 versions also had separate soundtracks. The arcade version's soundtrack was composed by Dan Forden, while the PS2 version
featured a licensed sound track that included tracks from the heavy metal rock band Disturbed, as well from hip-hop group Outkast.
The "CART" stands for Championship Auto Racing Teams, the American open-wheel formula racing circuit. CART was founded by the United States Auto Club.
