Legendary Axe 2 - The Dark Sequel to the PC-Engine Classic (Atlus, 1990)
Legendary Axe 2 was the re-imagining of the classic hack 'n slash platformer, but with a more dark and dreary tone. The game was well received on the Turbo Grafx-16 and PC-Engine. Game play is similar to the previous game, but the "strength charging" has been removed.
The game's story follows a pair of princes, one evil, one good, who both fight to claim the royal thrown of their kingdom following the deaths of their king and queen parents.
Multiple swappable weapons have been added and can be obtained by collecting icons like the sword, axe, and morning star. In addition, the player has a stock of screen-clearing bombs that can be used by pressing Run.
Defeated enemies drop these weapons and bombs, as well as health refills and extensions.
