Id Software changed gaming as we know it with Doom back in 1993, but Doom was just the foundation of what they would be building next. While Doom was an evolutionary feat in FPS video games, Quake started a revolution. One that still persists to this day. Quake was a technical marvel of its time, but it helped spark a Modding Revolution that has yet to lose steam.

Doom introduced many gamers to multiplayer Deathmatch and modding, but it was Quake that opened the floodgates. Because of this game, we got titles like CounterStrike and TeamFortress; And, because of Id Software's engine, we got Half-Life.

In Quake, you play as the Ranger, a lone soldier who is the sole survivor of Operation CounterStrike. A secret government project to develop teleportation technology called Slipgates. However, a inter-dimensional force code-named Quake connected their slipgates to our own, and the base was overrun. It is up to the Ranger to travel dimensions and battle the forces of Quake to stop an invasion of Earth.

Throughout the game's 30 maps, you'll encounter all manner of enemies. You'll also encounter ammo pickups, health packs, several guns, and ammo packs. Some defeated enemies will drop backpacks containing a small amount of ammo.

In secret places, you can find armor, and the all important Quad Damage, which temporarily triples the damage the Ranger dishes out. You'll also have to solve simple puzzles, push or shoot buttons, and locate keys to open locked doors. The main goal is to locate a series of runes that will enable you to face and defeat Quake, and thus prevent an invasion of Earth.
