Oh no, while April O'Neil reports from the Statue of Liberty, Shredder shrinks New York City using the power of the Hyperstone. An artifact from Dimension X. The Heroes On The Half-Shell must fight through the Foot Clan and Shredder & Krang's mutant henchmen to save the city.

Released the same year as Turtles In Time for the SNES, The Hyperstone Heist uses the same assets and borrows some of the music, but tells a completely different story. Both games are based on the classic 80s cartoon, which was adapted from the comic book series.

Gameplay is similar to Turtles in Time, at the start one or two players choose to play as Donatello, Raphael, Leonardo, or Michelangelo. Combat is also similar to Turtles in Time, each turtle has a unique attack based on their preferred weapon. The same color-coded Foot Clan ninja robots attack you, their color corresponding to what kind of attack they preform. And, you also run into the electric whip robots and those little bots on two legs that have big metal chompers.

Every staple of the 80s cartoon and SNES port of the arcade game are here, with some obvious differences.

There is a dedicated run button, which lets you knock enemies to the ground and perform other rushing attacks. You can also do jump kicks, and attack while in the air. Occasionally, a Ninja Turtle will grab one of the Foot Clan ninja robots and slam them on the ground, but since the Genesis lacks Mode 7 you won't be throwing enemies at the screen.

The only thing that really sets The Hyperstone Heist apart from Turtles In Time is the lack of Mode 7 effects. Otherwise, though it has a very different story, the game easily stands side-by-side with its SNES cousin as two of the best TMNT games ever made in the 16-bit era.
