Cat Quest (No, Not That One) - Episode 1: GatoRoco

And so, we've finally reached the final game of Platformerama. NekoGamerX ended up being the last man standing in this little contest... though whether that speaks to the perceived quality of the game or its relative obscurity remains to be determined. Honestly, given the fact that the last game to be picked would result in the one who picked it receiving a prize makes me wonder if Neko purposefully "sabotaged" his choice to give himself the best chance of winning. Of course, considering the fact that my game resulted in a random choice for the next game means that the whole thing could've backfired. Of course, given the subject matter, it's equally possible that this was a game that interested Neko -- though the fact that it was the only one that needed to be purchased seems like an odd choice for him, given his history with the concept.
I've heard The Big Journey compared to LocoRoco of all things. Personally, I never played that game, but looking at footage, I can see where the comparisons come into place. In fact, that may also explain why I wasn't able to use my controller: the PSP cult classic exclusively used the shoulder buttons -- it's entirely possible that The Bih Journey utilized the same control scheme. That being said, I adapted to using the keyboard so quickly that I'll probably just continue to use it all the same.
I'd heard that the game takes between 2 and 4.5 hours to beat. A small part of me wanted to get everything done in a single session, but considering the missions in each level and the extra post-game levels awaiting me... I think I'll go for full completion instead. Besides, my next stream needs a little extra time to finish percolating, so I can't deny that I have ulterior motives for giving The Big Journey a little extra love. Still, between the narrative which would feel right at home in a storybook and the eye-catching asthetic, I can't really deny that this game is a bit of a treat after playing so many stressful games on stream lately.
