Catch Level 100 Gengar before fighting Brock in Pokémon Yellow - A Wild Glitch Appears! #shorts
1,768Out of all the Pokemon Yellow glitches I've seen, this one is my favorite. Here's how to acquire a Level 100 Gengar before fighting Brock at the Pewter City Gym. Without trading, of course!
First, acquire a copy of Pokémon Yellow without committing any crimes. :)
Then play through the game like normal until you get to Viridian Forest. Beat the first trainer on the east side of the forest (I'm not sure how necessary this is, but it definitely doesn't hurt) then AVOID interacting with the trainer toward the north of the forest at the U-Turn section.
When you get to Pewter City buy an escape rope and a healthy amount of Pokéballs. Also, use the Pokémon Center because you will need to warp back here twice.
Now head back to Viridian Forest and find that trainer at the U-Turn that you avoided before. He should be the second trainer you see on your way back from Pewter. Stand on the far right side in the tall grass JUST ONCE SPACE outside of his line of vision. If you step just one square to the left, he will notice you and initiate a battle. That's where you want to be. In fact, save the game here just in case you mess up!
Now tap left and Start at the same time. This will walk you one tile to the left AND open up your menu before the trainer notices you. Use an escape rope and you will warp back to the Pewter City Pokemon Center right after the trainer goes like "!"
Now immediately walk to the Pewter City Gym. Hug the wall on the right as you approach the first trainer and battle him. If you walk directly in front of him, your game will freeze.
Anyway, Growl at his Diglett six times (and make sure all the Growls are effective!) then lose the fight. If you have to use a Potion at any point during this battle to keep yourself alive, that's fine.
When you are defeated, you will respawn at the Pewter Pokemon Center. Now head to Viridian Forest without getting into any battles. When you enter the forest, some unprompted dialogue will appear on the screen, and you will get into a battle with a Level 1 Gengar!
Depending on your level, you might not be able to weaken him without OHKOing him, so I simply paralyzed him and threw like seven Pokeballs. Eventually you should be able to catch him.
His status screen shows he is Level 1 even though his total experience is over 700,000. But if you have him gain a very small amount of experience (less than 55 I think?) he will suddenly grow to Level 100!
Contrary to what some may think, this Gengar will obey all of your commands even if you don't have any Gym Badges. ONLY TRADED POKEMON will disobey your commands.
