Celeste: Chapter 3C + Hiccups - 3C Golden Strawberry! (1.2.6.1)
Celeste (PC(W,M,L)/Steam)
v.1.2.6.1 (2019 Jan 21)
Chapter 3 (C-Side): Celestial Resort (3C)
Variant Mode: Hiccups ON
Golden Strawberry run (0-deaths clear)
So while I was working on the Hiccup-eline 1C GS, it seemed like some of the Hiccup patterns I was seeing were starting to feel awfully familiar... Anyway, after I completed the GS run, I did some more testing and research... and apparently (according to the Celeste changelog!), Hiccups aren't actually randomly determined, but are actually seeded based on what level you're playing!
What this means is that, on two different runs, if you do exactly the same thing with exactly the same timing, the Hiccups should occur at the exact same spots on both runs! (note: this seems to work for "Restart Chapter", but doesn't work for death respawns)
Of course, "do exactly the same thing with exactly the same timing" is easier said than done. =/ But for situations where there's very little leeway for unfortunate Hiccup timing, having even relatively predictable Hiccups can be extremely useful!
Like on 3C. =)
Anyway, long story short... after spending a bunch of time testing (and re-testing and re-testing!) Hiccups in 3C, I eventually pieced together timing strats that got me through Room 1, then Room 2, then the first part of Room 3... And I was actually still in the process of testing timing strats for the rest of Room 3... when this run happened. =)
So... here it is, my first ever Hiccup-eline 3C Golden Strawberry! Hope you enjoy!
Some notes and possible points of interest:
0:04 Hiccup-eline! ^_^
0:10 3C, Room 1
0:15 Variant Mode
0:22 0-deaths run begins!
0:23 Room 1 Hiccup strats are pretty much the same as before. The start timing I used here results in the Dash pattern: up, up, up-right (but if you use different start timing, you may get a different pattern!)
- Also note that not just start timing, but exit timing is also important! The anxiety blobs in the next room will start their cycles when you enter that room, so... since you'll want their cycles to line up the same way each time with your Hiccup timing, you'll want to keep your exit timing as consistent as possible for every run (in this particular case, small differences in Room 1 exit timing will probably be okay... but as I found out in testing, too large a difference will definitely cause problems in Room 2)!
0:29 3C, Room 2
0:37 I did three jumps here, because I got used to that timing... but the important thing is to keep the platform at the top, and to start moving down when the anxiety blob starts moving to the right.
0:44 Waiting here for a bit before starting Room 3. Exiting Room 2 with this timing seemed to make the Hiccup timing line up well with the first part of Room 3. =)
0:50 I seemed to get pretty good results when I moved from Room 2 to Room 3 during this Hiccup. I used the music to help with the timing!
0:50 3C, Room 3
0:51 Basically using the "just go" strat for this first section. =)
1:04 From this point on, I didn't have any well-tested Hiccup timing strats, so... crossing that gap was a little scary. Ideally, I would've liked to have figured out something a bit safer... but on the other hand, the Hiccups were remarkably well-behaved during the Oshiro-hops right after, so I guess it kind of balanced out...
1:22 Golden Strawberry get! ^_^
