Celeste: Chapter 5C + Hiccups - 5C Golden Strawberry! (1.2.6.1)
Celeste (PC(W,M,L)/Steam)
v.1.2.6.1 (2019 Jan 21)
Chapter 5 (C-Side): Mirror Temple (5C)
Variant Mode: Hiccups ON
Golden Strawberry run (0-deaths clear) (1.2.6.1)
So I started thinking about whether any of the C-Side GSes might be possible with Hiccups... and of course 5C came to mind! Due to the fact that Room 2 is simple enough to be almost guaranteed... all you have to do is get past Room 1, and 5C basically becomes a single-Room GS challenge. =o
So I thought I'd give it a try. I spend some time trying to figure out a slightly more reliable strat for Room 1 (and I'm pretty happy with the results!), and of course spent a lot of time in Room 3, looking for and practicing recovery strats and other alternate strats... and eventually I started to feel more comfortable with Room 3 than the last time I'd recorded it... ^^
So I gave it a go... and things didn't go quite as well as I'd hoped... but overall not too bad either... and eventually, this run happened! =)
So... yay, my first ever Hiccup-eline C-Side Golden Strawberry! Here's the video... hope you enjoy!
Some notes and possible points of interest:
0:04 Hiccup-eline! ^_^
0:10 5C, Room 1
0:15 Variant Mode
0:21 New strat: Figured out a new Room 1 strat for Hiccups which seems to be more reliable than the previous one. =) Again, working with the Hiccups to get through the room, instead of against them, which I thought was a nice way to start. =)
0:33 Basically, aside from the Hiccup timing, it's just two CDJs (Corner Dash Jumps) and a Dash to get to the final wall. You can use a CDJ instead of a Dash for that final part... but I got used to using a Dash, so that's what I ended up using in this video. ^^
0:41 5C, Room 2. Again, not too much to say about this Room. It's basically just a matter of doing a CDJ at approximately the right location (and not riding the platform down, so a Hiccup won't send you into the spikes).
0:52 5C, Room 3
1:01 Recovery note: If you get stuck on the small block with no Dash, you can still Jump+Hiccup to get to the next wall.
1:07 Recovery note: If a Hiccup delays you and you can't get to the Dash-block until it's at the bottom, that's okay! Pressing towards the block will send you back onto it if you Hiccup, so just wait for good Hiccup timing, then Jump+Hiccup to get enough height for the next CDJ!
1:12 Recovery note: If you miss the CDJ, there's a bounce-pad near the bottom of the screen that can get you back to the previous red bubble!
1:14 =p
1:16 0-deaths run begins!
1:17 5C, Room 1
1:26 5C, Room 2
1:37 5C, Room 3
1:57 New strat: For lining up Hiccup timing for the final red bubble, I found I actually got slightly better results when I Dashed up to hit the ceiling here, instead of Dashing directly down to the wall fragment. Again, this might just be a result of the small sample size, but it did seem to help!
- Additional note: Similar to the Dash-block at 1:07, if you're holding onto the wall fragment and pressing towards it, a Hiccup will send you safely back to the wall (it looks scary, but it actually works)! This also works for the small block at 1:01!
2:01 Whoops, didn't mean to grab the wall there. ^^;
2:11 Golden Strawberry get! ^_^
