Chapter 7 (C-Side): The Summit (7C)
Golden Strawberry run (0-deaths clear)

So... long story short, I actually recorded this video for my own benefit. I had so much trouble with 7C the first time I went through it, it actually surprised me, when I finally returned to it recently, that I was able to get the death count below 300... below 100, below 50, below 20...

And then, something I wouldn't have imagined the first time I went through 7C... I actually managed to get the death count down to 0! ^.^;;

Anyway, I originally figured I could just use someone else's video as a reference if I ever forgot the specific strats I was using... but as it turns out, though quite a number of people have posted 7C runs on youtube... all of the ones I looked at used slightly different strategies in one or more places... and I realized that if I wanted a record of the specific set of strats that seemed to be working well for me... I'd have to record my own. So that's what I did. =)

Anyway, as usual when I record something for myself, I started thinking about whether other people might benefit from it as well... and in this case, since a slightly different strat can sometimes make a significant difference (as I've discovered from my own experiences with 7C!), I figured my own set of 7C strats could end up helping someone (even if they only adopt one or two strats!), so...

Here it is... my 7C reference video! It's a GS run, but the strats work just fine for non-GS runs as well. So if you're having trouble with 7C (or are just curious to see what sorts of strategies I used), I hope this video will be of some help!

Some notes and possible points of interest:

0:01 7C, Room 1
0:03 Note: Corner-dash-jump (CDJ) timing: If you wait a bit before hitting the jump button, you'll actually get a stronger leap (like on clouds and moving platforms)!
- Interestingly, this first room of 7C is possibly the best place to practice and learn this! 7B (where the game teaches you the technique) is extremely unforgiving of mistakes (few if any safe recovery methods if you don't do the CDJ correctly)... which tends to discourage experimentation. =p
- 7C, on the other hand, starts with multiple CDJs in quick succession (so you can get a better feel for the timing more quickly) and relatively safe ways to recover if you make a mistake! It also has upward wind (additional jump height!), which makes it easier to see when your timing is better. =)
- Oh, something I learned recently about the CDJ is that, even though the Tutorial Bird (and subsequent 7B trials) seems to imply that dashing past a corner is necessary... it actually isn't! So technically it's more of a "next-to-wall-upward-dash-jump" (NTWUDJ). =)
0:05 Note: Recovery methods (1st 3 CDJs):
- (Any miss) Land on starting platform.
- (3rd missed) Grab third wall fragment, wait for refresh gem to respawn, then grab gem and try CDJ again.
0:08 Note: Recovery methods (next 4 CDJs):
- (0 dashes left) Fall leftward and grab first refresh gem, use dash to get to first wall, wait for gem to respawn.
- (1 dash left) Grab second wall, let go to fall a bit, then CDJ to get second gem.

0:18 7C, Room 2
- Not too much to say about this Room. There are other variations that will also work, but I just got used to doing things this way. ^_^

0:34 7C, Room 3
0:37 This is the last "safe" spot until you essentially get to the end, so I tended to pause here a moment to make sure I was ready, before starting. ^_^
0:42 Walking right while the cloud is lifting you seemed to work well for me, as far as the timing here.
0:43 This section of "narrow paths through spikes" takes a lot of practice, to get a feel for the air control timing. Once you get used to the air control timing, this section is... still difficult, but not quite so impossible! ^.^;
0:53 For this section between the spring and the cloud, I tended to do tiny leftward taps to cancel out some of the rightward momentum. This isn't necessary, but it seemed to help me.
0:54 A lot of people seem to do a tap-jump off the cloud (tiny hop!), but I found I liked doing a default bounce (just bounce off the cloud without hitting the jump button at all), because it was slower and gave a higher lift. =)
0:57 Originally I approached this CDJ with a rightward dash, but eventually I found the up-right dash was easier for me to distance and time properly.
1:04 Dash clusters: 5, 2, 2, 3, 1.
- R,R,U,U,R
- R,UR
- R,UR
- UR,UL,UR
- R (and don't forget to grab and climb!)
1:11 Whoops, forgot to grab! ^.^; Fortunately, that's recoverable. ^_^
1:23 It's not quite over... still have to get the Crystal Heart...
1:47 Crystal Heart get! ^_^
