Classic Game Room presents a CGR Undertow review of Dragon's Lair for the Super NES published by Data East.
Before the NES even existed, at a time when video games were defined by arcade machines and sprites made of just a handful of pixels, there was Dragon's Lair. It was a groundbreaking game designed by animator Don Bluth, and it became a huge hit in the arcades. Over the next decade, Dragon's Lair was brought to every platform imaginable, including the Super NES—at least, in name. This version of Dragon's Lair bares little resemblance to the classic original. In fact, it's a different game altogether. You still play as a knight who's trying to save a princess from a dragon, but aside from the premise, everything else has been changed. Dragon's Lair is an action platformer on the Super NES. Players must find the exits in very short and very difficult platforming levels, all the while slicing enemies with their sword. The game's map hides many secrets and often twists itself in knots, so you might have to play the same level several times before you find the right exit. Dragon's Lair is a single-player game.
