MC is going to hard carry for a couple more chapters. In Chapter 4 you get to choose Intermediate classes and you can train characters outside of battle, that's when the game really opens up.

Still, don't neglect to give orders to your party! The AI-controlled allies actually do a good job when they're given good matchups.

If there's a unit you clearly spend more time using than the others, it's good to assign them an adjutant. The support attack opens a lot more chances to break guard on enemy officers, and your Warrior Specials will hit much harder.
