🕹️ Charlie Chimp was the winner of the GamesMaster "Design a game in AMOS" competition, and spawned a number of sequels. Its a simple platformer, with one or two familiar gameplay mechanics, so lets check it out.

For the last show in the current run, I decided to end on another PD (erm, shareware?) title, from the many greats on offer. This one passed me by in the day, but I saw the images on Lemon and knew I had to give it a try. I was expecting a Catch Em style platformer, but instead it turned out to be a little more similar to other games. This is a colourful title, and moved up and down in the order of releases many times, as I really didnt know where to put it. I saw John Gage playing this recently, and maybe this is what spurred me to bump it up in the order.

This game ties in with our secondary theme this season - as well as Adventures we are also looking at some Rip-offs. This is definitely the latter, and narrowly missed my Rip Off Specials which I made last year. Im still working on those, as I want to release all 7 parts of it without any gaps, unlike the top 50 driving games releases.

Thats it for this part of the series. I'd edited and narrated half of the remaining games - some of which you can see at the end of this video. I had left most of the 'B' or 'C' rated games until the second half of the season, but Im not sure how many of those will survive, as the play list seems rather boring to me. Some like Nemac IV I edited and narrated, but those might not see the light of day, given I could be reviewing classics from Psynosis, Factor 5 or Core Design instead. But I havent decided on which new games to record, edit, narrate, and produce, as its a long process. You might think I have 5 months to finish the editing, and this WAS the plan, but finally (since last November!) I got myself a job in the video game capture industry, so I've no idea if I'll get time to do much editing, or with the series until next year. We'll see what happens, but right now Im hoping this position will keep me completely occupied, and bring in some extremely critically needed cash.

Danscore:
As I always say, there is a huge difference between the quality of a homebrew title and a commercial release. So while I might give this a low score as commercial game, as a free giveaway it gets a much better rating. For graphics I'd say its above average for freeware, with some graphics being taken from other popular games. Sounds are limited to SFX in the game, which the producer recorded their own burpy and farty noises. The gameplay on AMOS games is often laggy or jumpy, or need pixel perfect control - while this is slow on an A500, somehow on an A1200 or A3000 (or better) the jitter seems to be smoothed, and the game feels more fun and playable. But due to the extra speed of my CPU, the character often fails to stop on the edge of a platform, and falls off, leading to me using the controller like a block-maze game rather than a free flowing platfomer. The enemies take 10 hits while we only require 1 touch to die - rather shabby if you ask me, and the game would have been better if the enemies (or the time limits) were a bit easier. The controls, player speed and time element really let this one down. But the game has just as many frustrating elements as good ones, and it was fun to try to master it, so I give this game a PD rating of 6 out of 10. (as a commercial game I'd give it half that; maybe 3 out of 10).
