858We all know that the current standard banner lacks a Geo 5-star character, leading to the question: Is Chiori a standard banner character?
The Standard banner features at least one 5-star character from each element, except Geo. Qiqi is Cryo, Mona is Hydro, Keqing is Electro, Diluc and Dehya are Pyro, Jean is Anemo, and Tighnari is a Dendro 5-star character. Before Fontaine's release, there were rumors that Navia would be the 5-star Geo character added to the standard banner, but we now have the answer to that question.
And now, a month before Chiori's release, the question arises again: Will Chiori be added to the standard banner? The answer is no, or at least not at the time of making this video. However, it's not entirely impossible for Hoyoverse to include her in the standard banner. It's widely known that the current standard banner lacks a 5-star character from Inazuma and Fontaine.
In mid-2023, there was a leak suggesting that the standard banner would eventually have 9 5-star characters. Currently, there are 7 characters, and if hoyoverse adds Chiori to the standard banner, who is a Geo character from Inazuma, that would fill the empty spot for a Geo 5-star character.
You might be wondering where this question even came from. To put it simply, Chiori was nerfed two days ago, and now it seems like Chiori may be just as bad a playable character as Dehya was when she first arrived in Version 3.5.
According to updated data from HomDGCat, Chiori is a double-scaler unit, using both Attack and Defense to dictate the potency of her abilities. This is traditionally not good news for any character, as it can result in poor skill outcomes. The data suggests that both her Elemental Skill and Burst use Attack and Defense to calculate damage.
Double scaling may initially seem like a way to avoid the need for a single stat, but it actually makes building characters a lot harder. When farming for artifacts, you'll need pieces that distribute stats equally for Chiori. Focusing solely on Defense and neglecting Attack will lead to low damage output, and vice versa.
Dehya is a prime example of a double scaler whose potential is limited due to the complexity of building her. Her Elemental Skill and Burst scale off both Attack and Max HP, making it difficult to optimize her. Focusing too much on Attack overlooks potential damage via Max HP, and vice versa. Artifact farming is already challenging due to stat randomization, so searching for pieces with two stats is even tougher.
Of course, double scaling wasn't the only issue with Dehya's release. She also has trouble with her kit's essence, such as the cancellation of her Burst if she jumps. So far, there haven't been any other rumors about Chiori being a bad character, but the data indicating double scaling sets a bad precedent.
So the rumours have started to circulate that Chiori is a standard banner character. But rumors should always be taken with a grain of salt as they may be incorrect or subject to change. However, we can't ignore the fact that even if the chances of Chiori being a standard banner character are less than 1%, they're not zero.
