PREVIOUSLY:
Crono and his friends soon stumble upon Ozzie's Fort and are welcomed by the former general, who laments at Magus for siding with humans and deserting the mystics. Despite the structure being filled with traps, the heroes manage to outsmart Ozzie, navigating their way through the castle unscathed.
Finally catching up with Ozzie, he then summons forth Flea and Slash as the trio takes out their ultimate gears in order to defeat the heroes. Crono and the others ultimately wins the heated battle, taking down Flea and Slash in the process. Ozzie escapes and barricades himself inside a block of ice but soon gets taken down as well after a stray cat wander inside the room and inadvertently activates a trap that brought about his downfall.
After the events at Ozzie's Fort, the heroes arrive at a house in the middle of the desert owned by Fiona and her husband Marco. After helping them clear the monsters around the area, the party is moved by their determination to bring life upon the desert, with Robo agreeing to stay behind in order to help with reviving the forest.
Crono and the others then travel to 1000 A.D., where they see the barren desert has now turned into a lively forest. At the center of the forest is Fiona's Shrine with a broken and battered Robo sitting on the pedestal. Reunited once again, the party spends the night in the forest as Robo shares his thoughts after 400 years of experience. He theorizes that the gates may not be Lavos's doing, but that of an entirely different entity that wants the heroes to witness history. As the whole gang wonders who or what this entity might be, Robo thinks that their journey might finally conclude when they discover the identity of this entity.
In the middle of the night while the others are asleep, Lucca makes her way deeper into the forest, and enters a gate that brings her back to the time of her childhood in 990 A.D. It is soon revealed that Lucca's mother experienced an accident with one of the machines while Taban was away. Traumatized by the incident, Lucca uses the gate to go back to the past to save her mother.
As Lucca returns to 1000 A.D., she is welcomed by Robo, who commends her for being a kindhearted person that always puts others first before herself.
