Chrono Trigger - Ch. 7 - The Factory Ruins
CHAPTER 7 - THE FACTORY RUINS
With your party fully healed in Proto Dome's healing chamber, you can head north to the Derelict Factory. Once inside, head to the computer console in front of you, and Robo will disable the security programming present within. This will catalyze a couple of enemy encounters with new enemies -- Acid and Deverminator -- but you can easily win both battles. At the northern end of this initial room you'll find two elevators. As the notice on the wall reads, the one on the left leads to the laboratory, while the one on the right leads to the factory.
First, head right. We'll check out the factory before the laboratory. Here, there are two general ideas. The first is to get the treasure chests that are easy enough to pillage without having to do much. This is one treasure chest in particular, one that holds a Bandit's Bow. To get this new item for Marle, descend the staircase in front of you as you enter the area, and then take the one to your left down to a new area. Walk to the left, grab the bow, and equip it on Marle.
After this, you have to gain access to the lowest conveyor belt, where you should make it a point to run into an enemy. This will alert security as to your presence, and you'll be dropped onto a parallel, otherwise-inaccessible conveyor belt. You'll be wheeled through three battles of increasing difficulty with varying parties of Deverminators and Version 3.0 foes. After you survive all three fights, traverse the Bug-filled room you end up in and climb the ladder to another door. This door will lead to a bridge, which in itself leads to a series of rooms with treasure. On the right, grab the Mid-Potion, Mid-Ether, and 400 Gold. On the left, grab the Shelter and Ether.
It's from the left-side room that you'll be able to access a special crane in this area. Activate the crane two times, using the code BB and XA, one after the other. This will activate the crane and allow it to move barrels that are otherwise obstructing you from moving around. With them moved, you can grab the Thunder Blade from a room further to the left, which should be equipped on Crono. You can also activate a computer in that very room which will give you another important password to remember in the immediate future. Don't worry, though -- we'll bring it up when the time is right.
Another Ether can be found from the room with the Bugs in it, where you can follow a conveyor belt to various alcoves before returning to stable ground. You can then backtrack to the elevators, this time taking the one on the left, which will lead directly to the facility's laboratory. On the first floor down, head around the door above, where a difficult enemy party of Alkalis and Acids attack you. Grab the Shelter from the treasure chest and examine the computer in the room before using the ladder within the room the head to the floor below.
Breaching the floor below from here will allow you to examine parts of the floor that you couldn't reach from the elevator, if you had taken it down here. The two treasure chests within the room contain a Hammer Arm and a Titanium Vest, which should be equipped on Robo and Crono respectively. But more importantly, the computer in this room, once activated, will deactivate the pesky lasers blocking your path on this floor and the one underneath you. In fact, if you take the ladder down from this room, you'll appear on the bottommost floor, no longer hindered from exploring the entirety of the floor from the now-downed lasers.
Head northward up the corridor, open the treasure chest for a Plasma Gun (which should be equipped on Lucca if she happens to be in your party), and then examine the computer console. Remember the code the computer gave you in the factory earlier? This code -- X, A, B, Y -- should be inserted at the computer when prompted. This will open a door that will let you breach the security computer. However, when Robo activates it, the mechanism goes haywire, and the team must escape from the facility entirely before they're killed.
Since the elevators are now down, your only way out is to go back up the way you came; via the ladders. After backtracking far enough, however, the team is assailed by a group of six robots, similar to Robo, named the R-Series. These foes nearly kill Robo, incapacitating him for the fight that ensues with them thereafter. This pseudo-boss battle, fought short-handed, is a six-on-two affair that will truly test your mettle for the first time in the game. Their relentless attacks will necessitate careful planning on healing Crono and Marle/Lucca, but you must keep on the offensive as much as possible as well.
With the fight over and successfully won, the team retrieves a destroyed Robo. Dragging him back to Proto Dome, Lucca works to revive the robot. Once done, the team travels through another portal, this time to the literal End of Time.
